Spanish Fork Police Investigating Traffic Accident Involving Juvenile Who Fell Out of Vehicle

Spanish Fork, UT — On February 23, 2024 at 8:56 AM Spanish Fork Police, Fire and EMS were dispatched to a Auto-Pedestrian  accident at 100 North 400 East.  Officers arrived and learned that a juvenile had actually fallen out of a vehicle.  Officers learned that 5 juveniles left Spanish Fork High in a Jeep Grand Cherokee.  They traveled East on Center Street and then made a left turn onto 400 East.  At this time the front seat passenger decided to open his door and lean out of the vehicle.  In doing so he grabbed a hold of a handle above the door.  At some point the handle broke and the juvenile fell out of the vehicle sustaining serious head trauma.  The driver said he thought he felt a bump and may have driven over his friend.  Officers learned from hospital staff that there appeared to be no injuries consistent with being run over.  The injuries to the juvenile appear to be serious head trauma from falling out of the vehicle.  The other juveniles in the vehicle are cooperating with officers as this is still an active investigation.
