Boards, commissions, and committees are created to assist the City Council in carrying out the work of the City in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Unless otherwise indicated, all boards, commissions, or committees are not vested with the authority to make decisions regarding the public's business, but are advisory bodies whose purpose is to research issues, provide information, and make recommendations to the City Council. List of boards, commissions, & committees:
Airport
The Airport Board directs the development of the Spanish Fork Airport and recommends to the Mayor and City Council an overall plan for the airport and its facilities.
Arts Council
The Arts Council Committee shall foster an appreciation of the arts within the City, make recommendations to the City Council concerning cultural events to be sponsored by the City, and encourage privately sponsored cultural events to take place within the City.
Development Review Committee
Although no residents serve on the DRC, the committee was created to address the technical aspects of land use issues as set forth in Title 15, Part 3, Chapter 8 of the Spanish Fork Municipal Code. The development review committee is authorized to make decisions regarding the public's business in those limited instances identified in Title 15 where it is the land use authority.
Fiesta Days Executive Committee
The Fiesta Days Executive Committee shall make recommendations to the Council concerning the annual City celebration known as Fiesta Days which takes place every July.
Fiesta Days Rodeo Committee
The Fiesta Days Rodeo Committee shall contract for all the necessary items for the production and operation of the annual Fiesta Days Rodeo.
Historic Preservation Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission shall act in an advisory role to the City Council regarding the identification and protection of local historic and archaeological resources. The Commission shall work toward the continuing education of citizens regarding historic preservation and community history.
Library Board
The Library Board shall make recommendations concerning use of the library, the amount of fines and fees, and the operation and care of the library.
Miss Spanish Fork Pageant
The Miss Spanish Fork Pageant Committee shall make recommendations to the City Council concerning the Miss Spanish Fork pageant and related awards. The Committee shall organize the pageant, including arranging for facilities and programs.
Parks & Recreation Committee
The Parks and Recreation Committee shall make recommendations to the City Council concerning recreation facilities, programs, and participation fees.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission was created to address land use issues as set forth in Title 15, Part 3 Chapter 8 of the Spanish Fork Municipal Code. The planning commission, in those limited instances identified in Title 15 where it is the land use authority, is vested with the authority to make decisions regarding the public's business.
Recreation, Arts, and Parks (RAP) Program Committee
The RAP Program Committee is responsible for the distribution of RAP tax funds to various community priorities and projects.
Seniors Board
The Seniors Board shall make recommendations to the council concerning Senior facilities, programs and charges.
Urban Forestry Board
The Urban Forestry Board shall make recommendations to the City Council concerning the use and planting of trees on public property, together with the recommendation for their care and maintenance.
Youth City Council
The Youth City Council is made up of young men and women from Spanish Fork schools in 9 to 12 grade. A mayor and council are elected every June and have committees that help in service projects each month. Being on the Youth Council is a great chance to serve the community, meet youth from all over Spanish Fork, learn how city government works, and meet local and state officials.
