“SWAT INCIDENT BARRICADED INDIVIDUAL” 300 N 200 E Spanish Fork, UT

Spanish Fork, UT- On February 16, 2023 Spanish Fork Police Department was contacted by Wasatch Mental Health to assist in taking an individual into custody on a Mental Health Court Order.  When officers arrived the suspect would not cooperate or talk to officers or Mental Health workers.  The 42 year old male subject resides with his mother at the home.  Officers and Mental Health workers left and later in the evening were called back to the home because the subject had assaulted his mother and caused extensive damage inside the home.  The mother was able to get out of the home and went to stay with family.  Officers again attempted to communicate with the subject, but were unsuccessful.  The subject had barricaded himself inside the home.  The decision was made to let the subject calm down and attempt contact in the morning.  On February 17, 2023 Spanish Fork Police again attempted contact but again were unsuccessful.  A search warrant was obtained and the Utah County Metro SWAT was notified.  Utah County Metro SWAT attempted negotiations with the subject for a couple of hours before making entry into the home.  The subject was located barricaded in a room in the basement of the home and taken into custody.  The subject is being evaluated at a local hospital and will be booked into the Utah County Jail on several Felony Charges.  Following his release from jail the subject will be transported to a mental health facility for evaluation.
